Cleaning up after dinner, I reached down and squeezed my little girl’s bum.

“Mama, why you do that?”

“‘Cause I like your bum.  It’s beautiful.”

“No Mama, my bum’s not beautiful.”

“No?”

“No. ‘Cause bums are stinky and farty.”

“Okay, well I still think it’s beautiful.”

“Maaaama,” she says shaking her head.

Here’s a quick outfit from a couple of days ago, you know before it got too cold to breathe.  It was a unicorn of a Winter day: I could wear bare legs.  Crazy I know!

The day also made me realize that I miss wearing dresses.  But frankly my dear, it’s too cold.  Right now, I’m into the double pants, or thermal long underwear scene.

Or just bundling up in front of the space heater and never leaving the house.

No surprise, I would love to be in a Star Wars film, and put my sword skills to good use with a light saber.  That dream is right up there with being in a Star trek show/movie, and fighting Jet Li in a scene – any scene.  If I could achieve all three of those, I could die right there and then a happy woman.

In the meantime, I’ll snap up little things like this hooded blanket scarf that allow me to play subtle Jedi knight dress up in my daily life.

What’s that line? “If you build it, they will come.”  If I wear it, Yoda will come?

As everyone scrambles to get their shopping done, I’m enjoying the little things with my family.  We have free passes to Casa Loma, so that’s on the agenda today.  And yesterday we traded with a neighbor for an espresso machine.

None of it took shopping or money, all of it just took some good will.  The result is that this morning we’re nursing our first homemade lattes, and heading out to spend a day as a family.

I know, it’s disgusting how Hallmark the day is…but I love it.

Following up on yesterday’s post.  The mental and emotional journey was staggering over the last month.  I spent a lot of time crying, and feeling sad.  I was terrified that it would be a chronic or long term condition which had me really blue because all I saw were the things that I wouldn’t get to do.

Then came a point where I suddenly saw my old life (what came before this illness) and what I had, and was incredibly grateful for that.  I had so much life, so much freedom, and so much to be grateful for.  All I wanted was to get back to that.  So once I started to feel better, I was excited that I would get that old life back.

And now, for all intents and purposes, I do.  So that makes me happy.  I have so much freedom to do what I love and have amazing experiences.  But I do feel moments where the old downer thoughts – that I’m not booking enough as an actor or photographer – and the doubts – that I’m not good enough as a person, actor, photographer – try to creep back in.  It’s hard.  We all have a “Negative Nancy” as my naturopath calls her.  And I know we all have our ways of managing her.  I’m just trying to figure out a way to hang on to those feelings of gratitude and appreciation, rather than allowing Negative Nancy a megaphone.

How do you stay grateful?  And what things do you use to keep Negative Nancy at bay?

Went into a shop recently.  I got an email notification that the sale items were an extra 50% off that day.  So I walk in and browse the new arrivals, and the lady walks up to me and asks, “Are you looking for something in particular, or are you needing a whole new wardrobe?”

Several things ran through my mind at once.  One, do I look like I need a whole new wardrobe?  Really?  Two, what kind of person goes into a store to buy a whole new wardrobe? That’s not me being a smart ass, that’s me genuinely curious.  I could never afford to do that.  Three, how nice would it be to just walk into a shop and buy a whole new wardrobe, complete with fully crafted outfits.  And finally, four, bless you for thinking that I can afford to just go in and buy a whole new wardrobe!  Freelance artist here – just point me to that extra 50% off sale section.

I answered, “No.  Just having a look around.”  Yeah, for that sale section.

Day two in Ottawa was windy, can you tell?  It’s odd to sit here looking at these shots now that I’m back.  It feels ages ago, though it was only three days ago.  I guess that’s what a busy and tiring weekend will do to you.  I’ve had the pleasure of having three great photo shoots booked this weekend, so needless to say, I’m knackered!  But excited about editing and getting some Spring cleaning/downsizing done.

You guys doing Spring cleaning?  Any tips???

Red Nosed Winter Boots

Epic fail as a fashion blogger.  That’s what this Winter has caused.  I’m wearing the same warm winter boots in every outfit because that’s the only thing that I can wear without my toes freezing off!  How sad is that?  Plus, my shots – excepting today – are mostly just outside my home as it’s way too cold to travel far for some inspired backgrounds.  And finally, there’s perpetual red nose on me *that I could photoshop away, except that I’d like to stay honest with you guys* from the bitter wind.

I’m sooo way past ready for Spring.

Have a great weekend.  See ya for more red nosed, winter boot outfits.

We all know we live in a consumer society.  When we need something we go to the shop.  So while out doing the groceries, Baby Girl turned to me and asked, “Mama, where you go buy me?”

I answered, “To the best store ever.”

I patted myself on the back for that quick thinking.

Chasing a toddler around the house to get cuddles is one of my favorite activities.  It’s a little bit of joy to get the kisses and hugs, and it’s a little bit of vengence too.

See, they make you do things you’re not keen on all the time, and bugging them back a little to get something you want is a tiny little parental rebellion.

I was engaging in this activity, while saying, “Give me some sugar!”

Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks, turned to me.  Gave me a death stare and a super cute toddler furrowed brow, “No!  No sugar for you Mama!”

I tried to looked appropriately put in my place.  Managed to hold it until she turned her back, at which point I giggled silently to myself at being reprimanded by a three year old.
