What Rules?! Thursdays

Dress – Moon Collection  //  Shirt – Love Nail Tree  //  Sweater – made by my Babcia  //  Scarf – Kensie  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Tights – Hansel from Basel

Today’s rule to break is “No white after labor day.”  It’s an antiquated rule anyway, and I think most would agree it no longer applies.  So I thought a nice easy rule would be perfect to ease us out of the gate.  Next week we’re breaking the “No red lipstick during the day” rule.  I wanna see all your  pretty pouts.

Now today, let’s see how fabulous all you rebels are.

Link up your outfit post, Twitter picture, Instagram picture, Facebook photo, whatever link showcasing your rebellious style.   All I ask is that you grab a button or add a text link back.
Thanks.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat *And a New Link Up announced*

Sweater – Smart Set //  Tank & Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – c/o Atterley Road  //  Scarf – c/o Sexton In The City  //  Ring – Body Blue Toronto  //  Bag – unknown
People often ask me if it’s okay to repeat outfits.  And my answer is always, “Of Course!”  If you find a great combo use it.  Use it and re-work it, repeat it, whatever.  Often just changing a necklace or earrings is enough to add some freshness.  I do this all the time.  Mix up pieces I’m loving and re-wearing fun outfits.  There’s nothing wrong with it.
We seem to have this idea that everyday has to be new and different.  But think about those things we love:  our favorite book, favorite movie, favorite grandma’s stew.  We love them because they’re great and they never change.  I don’t see the problem with a great outfit either.

NEW LINK UP!  On that note, I’ve been wanting to do a fun link up for a long time.  And I’ve finally got the idea for one.  With Thursday being the unofficial start of  the weekend, and with the weekend being a time when we feel it’s okay to break some rules, I’m going to be hosting a Thursday link-up all about breakin’ the rules in fashion. *’Cause I don’t really think there are any*  Link up starts next Thursday October 10th.  I hope you join me.

And the first rule I want you to break is : No white after labor day.  So antiquated.  Let’s show ’em how fabulous we look breakin’ all the rules.  Style an outfit that breaks this rule and link up next Thursday.  Easy peasy!

Out With Sexton

Dress – Zara  //  Tights – HUE  //  Boots – Walmart  //  Scarf – c/o Sexton in the City  //  Earrings – F21
Told you I can’t get enough of pleather; so, this was the perfect LBD for me.  This leopard print scarf was a fun way to add a little bit of something to the whole affair without being too colorful.  Plus, hey, who doesn’t love leopard? I know.  Years ago I wouldn’t have ever worn leopard, now I’m kind of loving it.  People change, styles evolve though.
What I really enjoyed was the make-up.  Natalie is a make up artist I’ve known for years.  Recently, she launched her own make up line and opened a boutique called Sexton in the City.  She’s done my hair and make-up for television quite a few times, so I have faith in her abilities.  That’s why when she suggested sending me a few items to try I just said, “You pick them.”

What came kind of surprised me. Coral and orangey and bright bright pink.  Honestly, these are not the colors I would’ve ever picked for myself.  But like I said, I trust the woman, plus they go really fantastically with the scarf she sent me too.  So I put together a simple and natural look using everything except the pink ‘Oh Jessie’ glaze. *That’s for another night*

I was surprised yet again.  She had chosen really great colors for me. I should’ve known better than to doubt when I opened the box.   I loved the orangey/coral blush *and the name, ‘orgasmic’!* and the Huetopia lipgloss.  It’s hard to tell in the photos because I don’t like to wear too much and therefore it doesn’t show up all that well, but the blush gave me a wonderful subtle glow.

The gloss is a bit thick for my everyday preferences, but for a night out like this it was great because it lasted all night with only one touch up.  The neutral shimmer eyeshadows in Beige Mist and Hot Pants were just enough color without making it seem too obvious as, like I mentioned earlier, I don’t like to go too crazy with make up.

I will say, and here’s where it becomes really apparent that I rely on others for my make up, that the mascara curved applicator took me a bit to figure out.  But once I did I really liked how easily it went on and how it made my lashes pop without bulk.

I’ll be reaching for all of these frequently.  Especially since I have nothing else like it in my collection.  Now, I’m kind of wanting to get the Russian Red and Diva lipsticks.  Hmmm….

Yup, That’s What I’m Gonna Do

Jacket & Top – Le Chateau  //  Pants – Gap  // Boots – Call It Spring  //  Necklace & Hat – Threadsence //  Scarf – street stand  //  Sunnies – F21
Wear hats and sunnies in the Autumn.  Clearly I’m so sun phobic that given the chance to wear a wide brim felt fedora I’m going to take it.  This was the morning we headed over to the grandparents before I headed out to the last day on set this month for the feature film, Synchronicity.    Knowing I was going to be on set outside for a lot of the day played into the sun-phobic outfit.
And of course the second I started taking pictures, baby girl had to get in there to join me for them.  The best part was that she started posing for them.  Copying the moves she’s seen me make, and telling me how to stand.

The Mask and Me

Jacket – F21  //  Cardi – hand me down  //  Scarf – Street Stand //  Cords – Le Chateau  //  Boots – Feet First
I picked up this amazing piece of artwork from a friend.  She makes them from hand crafted and painted leather.  Let me tell you they are amazing and so beautiful!  They remind me of something from a Venetian masquerade. I’m excited to have this framed piece standing over my desk right now.
Slowly, ever so slowly I’m starting to amass artwork in my house that has meaning to me.  That’s the most important thing to me, that it says something and reminds me of something.  It’s exciting to see these things displayed around my home and know that each one has a fun story.

Just Darn Annoying

Jeans – Gap  //  Sweater & Sunnies – F21  //  Scarf – Trove  //  Necklace – Ardene  //  Bag – Ruche  //  Shoes – Threadsence

This is pretty much my sick outfit.  And not sick, as in super awesome and cool, but sick as in I’m fighting off a horrible cold that makes me feel like hacking out my own lungs.  I resort to comfy and cozy things when I feel crappy.

I find being sick really annoying.  I don’t feel well.  I have low energy.  But the responsibilities and tasks don’t diminish.  So I just find it darn inconvenient to have to be ill during these moments.  It’s not like there’s anything seriously wrong with me, so I know I’m fine, I just can’t get through my daily tasks like before.  So yeah, it’s just annoying.  I could really do without it.  Maybe I’ll start a petition that’s anti-cold.  Would you sign?

Thank You For Thinking This Is Ugly

Jacket & Belt -F21  //  Top – hand me down  //  Dress – BB Dakota via ModCloth  //  Scarf – Kensie  //  Boots – Aldo
When I saw this dress on ModCloth I immediately fell in love, but on this artist’s budget it just wasn’t happening.  So I waited and hoped for either a big cash boon or a big sale that would allow me to own this gorgeous piece.  Well, the big cash boon didn’t happen, but it seems that this dress wasn’t all that popular since it went on big time sale.  Plus, with an exclusive newsletter discount code, I nabbed it and squealed as it went into the ‘order confirmed’ box.
So thank you to everyone who thought this dress was ugly and for making it less than popular, because I think it’s absolutely perfect and I am over the moon that I nabbed it at pennies on what it was originally priced at.  Thank you!  Thank you! Thank you!  You have have officially made my day.  Kisses and hugs.

Over and Over

Top- Wallis via The Bay  //  Vest – AE  //  Scarf – Only via Trove in Toronto  //  Cords – Le Chateau
 Boots – Locale  //  Necklace – Ruche  //  Sunnies – F21
You know, my pictures haven’t been working out the way I want them to lately.  I’m thinking it might have something to do with the fact that I freeze so much and my fingers become stiff from the cold and all I can think is, “That’s good enough.”  I can’t wait until it gets a little, just a little, warmer so I can take some time and get the shots that I imagine in my head.
My days have not been at all interesting because I’ve spent them in rehearsal or sitting with a sick toddler on my lap.  Mostly sitting with a sick toddler, watching the same episode of Dora over and over and over….and over.

But enough about me.  I’m really boring right now.  What are you doing in anticipation of Spring?

Projected Self Image

Top & Bracelet – Brandy Melville  //  Pants – hand me down  //  Scarf – street stand  //  Necklace – Threadsence  //  Boots – Locale
If you passed me on the street right now, what you’d see is that bundled up lady in the second picture pushing a covered up grumpy baby, but of course those of you on the web usually only see the first picture there.  It’s clearly a projected self image that, while true, is not representative of the whole picture. *pardon the pun*  It’s like FB or twitter.  The rates of depression have soared because of social media where everyone presents their best selves, the image of the selves they would like to be project to the world, and that makes us all compare ourselves to these false representations of people.  No one can live up to that.
You never see that the woman jet setting around the globe cries herself to sleep at night.  Or that the man with the perfect family is swimming in debt. Or that our favorite blogger who looks so cute or does so many crafts is in pain all the time.   Nor should you really since social media is public and we don’t air our dirty laundry in public or on the street.  But my point is that as hard as it is we should never compare ourselves to people on FB, twitter, or blogs, because we don’t see the truth behind the pictures.
Your life is good, warts and all.
Here endeth the lesson

Boycotting February

Sweater –Free People via The Bay  //  Tank – Gap  // Leggings – hand me down  //  Scarf – street stand
Freezing cold.  I think I’ve decided that I hate February.  Even with Valentine’s Day and copious amounts of chocolate, I think I could do without the entire month.  It’s cold. And everyone gets all cabin fevery. *yes, that’s a word*
On days like this I don’t even dare to step outside to take out the recycling.  It can sit there until it walks out on it’s own, or Andrew takes it out, whichever comes first.
Time for tea.  Stay warm everyone.
