Regrets, I’ve Had a Few

Scarf – Trove; Dress & Ring – Spotted Moth; Booties – Ruche.

Do you have regrets?  I do.  I used to say I didn’t.  I think I said it because I was prideful, as in “everything is perfect, exactly how I want it and I don’t make mistakes.” And I don’t know if it was true at the time or not, but these days I have them.  Yes, the choices I’ve made have led me to the point I’m at now and there are so many things I’m thankful for.  But the nature of regrets is the ‘could-have-been’ nature to them.  You wonder, “Was that the better choice?”   I think I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be, but that doesn’t mean that at 5am in the morning I don’t regret. I regret choices. *I was younger and stupider…hard to believe I know* I regret actions.  I regret things I said, and things I didn’t say.

I think regrets aren’t a bad thing.  It means you’ve grown and if you knew then what you know now, you would behave different.

Sorry, don’t mean to be a downer.  Ice cream anyone?

  True Story:
I come into the living room last night and Drake the Dog is sprawled, spread eagled on his back on Husband’s lap, who’s giving him belly scratches.
I felt like I was intruding.

Skirts Abound With Boho-Casual

Top – Smart Set; Belt – AE; Skirt – Zara; Booties – Aldo.

I was on the set of Posthuman shooting an awesome episode today!  Seriously, it’s gonna be sooo good.   But that’s why I don’t have an outfit pic for you.  Instead, I’m showcasing an outfit that’s a few days old. Hope you like it!  I certainly do, but that’s because I’m having a love affair with Maxis recently.  Shhh, don’t tell Husband.   He doesn’t suspect anything.

In the meantime, check out this video.  It’s a little behind-the-scenes at the Movieola studio. *and I’ll be posting those outfit pic tomorrow, so it’s also like a sneak peek*

Happy Sunday!

Standing Out In A Sea Of Beauty

Top – Ruche; Maxi – Spotted Moth; Booties – Aldo.

A friend and I were recently talking about beauty.  We were discussing the prevalence of a certain standard of beauty in society and the pressure we both feel to live up to it, and the fact that we both deviate from said standard in highly “negative” ways.  So it’s kind of interesting that in the September issue of Flare magazine (a Canadian fashion magazine) there was a whole reader survey about beauty, standards, and pressures.

Us Canucks had some interesting things to say:
The images we see on the internet, and social networking sites on a daily basis heighten our expectations of beauty and perfection in ourselves.  This sets the bar higher and higher for ourselves, and we feel a pressure to live up to it daily.  And while most of us have a dissatisfaction with our body shape and weight, overall we feel beautiful.

Do you agree?

This sort of goes along with what my friend and I were talking about.  The prevalence of amazing photos, and such a huge assortment of beautiful women makes both of us feel we have to live up to some unachievable bar of beauty.

Do you struggle with weight and body image?  Do you feel beautiful?  In such a menagerie of beauty, how do you stand out?

Just a side note since we’re talking about photos, I’ve been just using curves and color balance exclusively in my photos recently.  So how do you like it?

Maxis ‘Round The Pool

Dress – street stand in Valencia, Spain; Glasses – F21; Sandals – Zellers.

Today was another wonderful sunny day at my Mom’s house.  I went swimming three times!  Like I said, wonderful!  Baby ran around, chased the dog, and screamed when we tried to *yet again* take her swimming. Oh well, we tried.

I bought this dress in Valencia, Spain several years ago and I’m still completely loving it.  It’s so bright and happy – perfect for a sunny day!   Ah, and check this out if you want to see how I styled it in the cold weather.

The family enjoying pie after dinner!

True Story:
Drake ripped open a squeaky toy today – killed it.  Baby found the big plastic part inside that squeaks.  Then she spent twenty minutes with it in her mouth chomping down non-stop to make it squeak as she crawled around the house. Kids are hilarious!

Date Day Outfit

Dress – ShopKempt; Sunglasses & Sandals – H&M.

For our date day out, I wore this little number from ShopKempt.  It was the perfect mix of dressy and casual to make the day special but also not to look like I was wearing a prom dress ’round town.  The light cotton material was so breezy and flowy, I felt so cute and girly!  I like florals, but sometimes they get a bit busy for me, which is why I love that this dress keeps the floral pattern in a simple monochromatic color scheme.

And I could eat as much as I wanted without my clothes betraying me – it gave my tummy plenty of room!

In retrospect, I would’ve worn different shoes with it, ’cause these are a bit big and they made me feel a little like Ronald McDonald on occasion.

The Birds

I kept it simple in this outfit.  Basic Walmart t-shirt with a beach bum skirt *literally!  I bought it in Barcelona on the beach!* The shoes are my garden/backyard shoes from Value Village.  The reasoning behind this outfit?  I was tired so I didn’t feel motivated.  It was hot, so I wanted something light and cotton.  And I didn’t want to have to shave my legs, hence the maxi.

On a side note, the rose bush in my garden is a great backdrop for photos lately!  But that’s where my nature loving ends.  I hate the birds in my yard!  They eat all my plants and I only got half a strawberry cause of them.  Now I understand the allure of scarecrows.  I seriously want to adios the birds.  Anybody have a bow and arrow?

My Baby Birthday Suit

Forgot make-up…again.  Ssseesh, I got to try to remember that
Dress – somewhere in Barcelona.

Hey, it’s Baby’s birthday *I’ll share all that with you later* but here’s the dress I’m wearing today.  It’s one of my favs.  I got it in Barcelona and wore it a lot while bumming around Europe.

I love how easy it is to throw on a maxi and head out the door.  It’s one of those things you really don’t have to put a lot of thought into, but it still looks put together.  That’s true of any dress really, but maxis especially.  I think because they’re so long, they’re a show all in themselves and they make a statement without really trying.

Just so you know, I didn’t manage to get any shots, but I’m actually just wearing a simple nude flat sandal with it.

Two Outfit Posts In One Day? What?!?

Sunglasses & Dress – F21; Bangles – Ardene; Flip Flops – Abercrombie&Fitch.

So I thought I’d post this outfit before the days got away from me and the pic were just sitting on my computer.  I wore this to set for Day 2 on the music video I recently shot.  I would’ve liked to wear cute nude sandals, but the flip flops were a practical necessity: the shoes I wear for the shoot are really hot and I wanted to have these to change into for shots where you didn’t see my feet.

Oh and FYI – I have a black bruise on my hip and two on my knees from the shoot, plus a bad sunburn on the back of my neck in the shape of a Vee – the exact shape the costume didn’t cover.  The bruises and hurt have really made me nostalgic for training days.  So I’m gonna try the Muay Thai place around the corner.  It’s not Kung Fu (my specialty) but it’s still a cool Martial Art.  I’ll let you know how that goes.

I just had to share this with you: my friend, Reggy,  commented on my photo and says I look like Katie Holmes in these shots.  I’m very flattered *blush*

Time Is A Malleable Thing

Earrings and Bracelet – F21; T-Shirt – Dehlias ; Skirt – Spotted Moth; Shoes – Zellers.

So I’m done my shoots for a bit. I’ve got rehearsals for two projects coming up, live on air shifts and probably more auditions, but right now it’s quiet and therefore I’m taking a small breather. I like being busy, but I also like the quiet moments where I can just enjoy the time.

Oh and Baby’s first birthday is coming up.  That completely blows my mind.  At times it feels like we’ve had her forever *especially when she keeps up at night* and other times it feels like we’ve had her just a few short weeks.  But it’s been a year.  One whole year.

Today I watched her watching Backyardigans and was completely mesmerized.  That cute little nose, those lips hanging open in wonderment, and those smooth porcelain cheeks.  I made those.  I nourished and grew them.  And they’re beautiful.  As is the mischievous little personality that thinks I don’t see her splashing in Drake the Dog’s water bowl.

True Story: Opened the fridge, took out almond milk to put in my coffee, put milk back, turned around and found Baby eating Drake the Dog’s food.  His food is organic and sugar free, so at least she’ll have a shiny head of hair.

Dress 70: Pardon The Lunacy Of This Unhappy Camper

Cardi – H&M; Shirt – from Mom; Dress – F21

Seriously!  What is up with the weather here??? Spring was well on it’s way with sunshine and warm breezes and all of a sudden we have flurries and weather in the negative degrees celsius.  I am not a happy camper.

I’m also very tired today, so pardon the raving lunacy.

That’s it.  I’m done for today.  Better stop writing before I say something stark raving mad.

See y’all tomorrow!
