What I Share With You

Hat – Zellers
Shirt – ?
Shorts – Gap
Shoes – Lulus

Through a recent comment, I had a great conversation with a reader named Dawn about some issues she brought up in her post, and issues I brought up in my first post.  We were discussing the issue of privacy and our choices regarding that. Namely, posting our child’s pictures on the net and sharing intimate details of our lives. I don’t post full face shots of my girl.  It’s my choice to maintain a level of her privacy. *Please don’t assume that this in any way takes away or belittles your choice to post your child’s pictures*

Dawn also brought up the issue of whether you can have a real connection if you don’t share everything.  I responded with this:

“I try to be as open
as I feel comfortable – which isn’t everything – while guarding her
privacy.  Also, you can still make connections.  I don’t tell the friend
I have coffee with everything about my life, but that doesn’t mean the
connection is any less genuine.  I don’t tell co-workers everything and
again, they are real connections.  So no, I don’t think you have to
share everything to have a connection as long as you’re genuine in what
you do share.

I just wanted to bring you in on this conversation and say that while you may not know the intimate details of my life, what I do say to you and what I do share is 100% me and sincere.

That’s the best I can offer.  Hopefully, that’s enough.

I Swear I’m Not Naked!

Dress – Threadsence
Cardi – Yumi
Shoes – Payless
Sunnies – Lace Affair
Bracelet/Necklace – c/o TwillyPop
Sometimes you don’t really notice what you look like until you see a picture.  Now, I would like to think that had I had a full length mirror, I would’ve noticed that I look totally naked underneath this dress.  I assure you, I was not!  I had on a nude colored bra, and skin tight, nude booty shorts.  But despite my covering up underneath, the sheerness and the silhouette created do indeed project that image and therefore I find it indecent.  A half slip is being purchased as we speak.
However a misfortune this incident was, I have to share how much I’m adoring this necklace.   It’s gorgeous! And I think it walks the line of simple and chic while still being a stand out item.  What’s great about it is that it’s so flexible you can do whatever you like with it.  I often get a rebel-without-a-cause satisfaction out of wearing things the way they’re not ‘supposed’ to be worn.  That, coupled with the fact that it was so humid I couldn’t bear to have anything on my neck for more than 15 minutes, resulted in the move of this piece to my wrist and my wearing it as a bracelet for the rest of the day.  It’s gorgeous, and not only did I get compliments on the dress, I got more than a few complimentary looks at my wrist.
True Story:
Baby spilled something.
She went around to the other side of the bed to get a kleenex to wipe it up.
On the way back, she was distracted by something Andrew said to her.
Once done, she looked back in the direction she had been originally going and stood there.
She had totally forgotten her determined and resolute mission.  S
he stood there for several moments clearly trying hard to recall what it was she had been so focused on.  Then she dropped the Kleenex, did a 180 and walked away.
Her mission aborted.

The Best Fashion Advice I Can Give

Dress – ASOS
Sandals & Necklace – Ruche (last summer)
Earrings – c/o This Enchanted Pixie
Though I’m not a famous fashion blogger, nor a famous stylist, I do sometimes get asked about fashion advice.  Now I’ve got a lot to say mind you, about aesthetics and style, but I often get asked what’s the best fashion advice I have.  I usually say something regarding general style and confidence, but that’s not really the best fashion advice I have.  The best fashion advice I have is this – have a strong and healthy body. *notice I didn’t say “perfect” or “thin”*

On a strong and healthy woman – exercise and healthy eating habits – anything looks good.  You can put a paper bag over some healthy figures and they make it look couture – and the opposite is true.  I remember seeing pics of certain celebrities/models in high couture just before a major breakdown and they looked horrible.  So my best fashion advice is this – eat well and get a move on, the rest is just details.

P.S.  The winner of the Summer Lovin’ Giveaway has been decided and it was Rebecca!

The Fantasy Does Not Become Reality

This is the fashion blogger I sometimes fantasize I am.

But then, just like that blurred head in the foreground of the photo, reality infringes.
And this is the fashion blogger I really am.

I’m okay with that.

Tee – Gap
Belt – Spotted Moth
Dress worn as Skirt – Guess

If You Came To My House Unannounced…

Dress – BB Dakota
Belt – F21
Shoes – don’t remember
…this is usually the state you’d find me in.  Sundress, hair tied up *or not* and some kind of nude sandal. *or barefoot depending on what I was up to*
I often wish I was like other fashion bloggers who have a photographer boyfriend, or the whole day to spend going to the perfect location to take artistic and nuanced photos with their tripod, but alas, I’m not.  I’m busy, often rushed, and consider a shower a cross between a necessity and a luxury.  So, unfortunately, sometimes all I can produce is a rushed picture of the dress I wore that day before I run back in the house to get on with whatever task is pressing upon me at that moment.
If you came by though, I could manage you cookies and homemade iced tea.
And a cute, cuddly toddler.
That’s pretty good isn’t it?

My Own Personal Stylist

Top – H&M
Shorts – Gap
Necklace & Hat – F21
Shoes – Winners
Lately, baby girl has developed not only a very particular sense of style – she always has an opinion on which hat and shoes she wants to wear which day – but she’s also developed a taste for her Mama’s clothing and accessories.  She runs around the house in my vest and bra *interesting combo wouldn’t you say?* and dictates who wears what *as evidenced above*.  I can only imagine what she’s going to do to Andrew!  Figures that I would end up having a stylist in the house.  Only I think she cares more about her outfit then mine…so a bit of a selfish stylist then?
I’ve created a monster.
Or as my Mama would say, “Karma.”
True Story:

Pruned and Planted

Shirt – hand me down
Dress – Ruche or Modcloth
Shoes – thrifted *they’re my mucking about the yard shoes*
Got my garden done!  I pruned, seeded, and planted!  Now I can’t wait until my delicious and organic garden grows!  I’ve got golden cherry tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, spinach, mixed colored carrots and plenty of herbs.  But the surprising thing this year was how much the raspberry bushes grew!
So as I tweeted yesterday, I’ve got my post-apocalyptic skill set ready: swords, firearms, and gardening.  Speaking of firearms *and only because I got to carry a fake one* we wrapped the new premiere episode of Posthuman.  Everything’s been re-shuffled and reorganized for the June premiere on the SFN network.  Stay tuned, and I hope you check it out!
True Story:
I love how when I lift baby girl from her crib she automatically assumes the position of wrapped legs around my torso, arm around me shoulder, and head nuzzled in to neck.
It’s so precious and cuddly.  I can’t get enough!

Dare I Hope For Soon?

Dress – Ruche
Sweater – made by my Babcia
The warm front we had for a few days made it seem like the fresh joy of Spring was just around the corner.  Now it’s freezing outside again.  So cold, that neither man nor beast dares to venture out of doors.  I long for the days when I pull out my sunhat and sunglasses and leave the toque and scarf abandoned in the far corner of the closet.  So I look wistfully outside my windows and wonder, “Maybe soon?”
Dare I hope?
True Story:
Drake the Dog reached for baby’s food.
She frowned, looked at him and said, “No, no, no” while wagging her finger.
It’s funny to see yourself reflected in your toddler’s eyes.

Resuming Life

Sweater – Jacob
Dress – Ruche
Belt – F21
Tights – Hue
Boots – Locale
I’m back!  Yes, I’ve been away and that’s why there’s been a great silence from me on social media.  I’ve been away ten days, and I came home last night to wine, chocolate, a foot massage, and some cuddle time with Andrew, and of course lots of quality time with Baby.  I missed her so much!  But at the same time it was wonderful to have the freedom to go out late into the night, have a little too much wine, dance like there’s no tomorrow, and just generally carry on silly.  Sometimes you need a vacation from the everyday.  But at the same time it’s amazing to get back to life as usual.
True Story:
Walked with Baby to a playgroup at the local school.
She walked by a young woman waiting at the bus stop.
Then turned around and said, “Bye, Bye” and waved.
Then she blew the girl a kiss.  The girl blew a kiss back.
Baby laughed and continued walking…for about three feet before she turned around and repeated the whole process.
Again, and again, walking about three feet each time.
