New York, I’ve Arrived

Here’s some stuff from my first day in New York…

Cool building.

Fun street metal art.

Yes, I went shopping in Beacon’s Closet.  One dress has been added to my wardrobe.

Overpriced store with a beautiful display.
My obsession with Top Gear has caused me to pay attention to cars like never before.

Top – stolen from Mom; Dress – H&M; Sandals – Zellers; Bag – F21.

See you tomorrow!  I’ve got some good stuff planned.

Making faces at Baby.

Dress – Ruche; Shoes – Payless.

Yesterday I had rehearsal for something I’m shooting on Saturday.  It’s a trailer for a feature that I’ll be in next year.  And it’s a horror film!  Going to be so much fun!  For the rehearsal I wore this lovely Ruche dress.  It was sweltering hot and this dress is nice and cool.  I’ve had to alter it since it’s too big around the bust for me, and I have to do so again, ’cause it’s still a bit roomy.  But I do really like the pattern on it.  And of course I had to wear a matching flower in my hair!

Showing Your Colors

Hat – Ruche; Dress & Belt – H&M; Shoes – Payless; Earrings – independent artisan.

For us Canadians yesterday was a great day; we celebrated the birth of our nation.  While many people had bbqs with friends and then watched the fireworks, I chose to wear our national colors *red and white* on air while I hosted Movieola.  Our friends south of the border have Independence Day coming up, so tell me, how are you going to celebrate? And for you Canucks, how did you spend Canada Day?

On a side note, I played the BSG board game for the first time yesterday, and it’s so much fun!  I think I’m going to buy my own copy on the way to work today!  So much fun trying to figure out who’s a cylon!

When Husband says, “It’s….nice?”

Hairclip – F21; Dress – Ruche; Belt – H&M; Shoes – Payless; Purse – Matt by Matt&Nat.

Husband got himself into trouble yesterday:

Me: Do you like my dress?
Him: It’s….nice?
Me:  Nice, huh?
Him: I mean…it’s nice…I like you in other things…but…um…yeah…it’s….nice.

For future reference, when Wife asks if you like her dress, the answer is a resounding “Yes!”, not a hesitant “it’s…nice?”  Husband doesn’t care for the “vintage, hippy thing” as he calls it.  Well, tough luck buddy, ’cause I do and you’re stuck with me. *sticking out tongue*

True Story:  Baby loooooves meat, potatoes and bread.  Husband commented, “You can tell she’s Polish.”  I didn’t know whether to be offended, or to chuckle.  So I did both. *haha. grrrr*

He’s on a roll isn’t he?

Date Day Outfit

Dress – ShopKempt; Sunglasses & Sandals – H&M.

For our date day out, I wore this little number from ShopKempt.  It was the perfect mix of dressy and casual to make the day special but also not to look like I was wearing a prom dress ’round town.  The light cotton material was so breezy and flowy, I felt so cute and girly!  I like florals, but sometimes they get a bit busy for me, which is why I love that this dress keeps the floral pattern in a simple monochromatic color scheme.

And I could eat as much as I wanted without my clothes betraying me – it gave my tummy plenty of room!

In retrospect, I would’ve worn different shoes with it, ’cause these are a bit big and they made me feel a little like Ronald McDonald on occasion.

Nearest And Dearest

Hat – Ruche; Dress – F21; Shoes – Payless.

I had a whole outfit planned for today.  But Baby had her first vaccinations yesterday and so now she’s got a full blown fever.  All she does is sleep, lay with me on the couch and drink water.  So, that’s the end of any plans I had.  It’s all about her and comforting her through this time.

She’s napping again right now, so I’m taking this opportunity to post some shots from a few days back *’cause currently I’m wearing shorts and a tank top with spit-up on it*. This dress is actually a little too short for me to wear in public with my head held high, so I’m shortening it into a really fun button up blouse.  I love the pattern waaay too much to give up on it!

You know, I talk a lot about being a Mom and still holding on to fashion and style.  And I mean every word of it!  Fashion is about self expression, creativity, and fun.  It isn’t, however, the nearest and dearest thing to my heart.  So, when my darling is sick, or feverish from shots, it’s about comforting her and loving her.

So peace out all you lovlies!  I’m gonna go be ‘Mama.’

A Story All Of Their Own

Me and my darling babe playing on the swings!

Hat & Glasses – F21; Dress – vintage; Shoes – Payless; Belt – Spotted Moth.

First off, I’d like to say a warm welcome to my new followers!  You’re all awesome!  And I really hope you enjoy my humble blog.  It’s a genuine pleasure to write for all of you.  And your sweet comments always make my day.

I’m kind of obsessed with vintage dresses lately.  You may know of my general obsession with dresses, but the fact that these dresses are so unique and they have a history all their own really intrigues me.  I am small *not that I’m complaining*, so a lot of stuff doesn’t fit me all that well, but that’s why this belt is awesome.  It’s nice and thick and when I wrap it around me is suddenly makes things look like they fit.  I love this belt so much that I have another one in a tan color too!

Fun tidbit of news:  check out an article my friend was responsible for here.  It features a quote from me!

My Not-So-Graceful Marilyn Moment

So here’s some shots of the outfit I wore for Baby’s party.
I love that my dress twirls!
My hair was just not going to be straight with the humidity, so I just added some light curls to give it a little life.
Dress – handmade off Etsy; Hat – Ruche; Sandals – Zellers.
I love this little handmade dress.  When it came, I had to fix several of the seams because they weren’t done well, but really for $14 I couldn’t expect much.  And fixing seams is really easy so I’m not complaining…too much.  I really love the feminine feel of this dress.  Later that night I went to work, and walking down the street from the coffee shop I noticed something:  for some reason this dress makes my hips sway a bit more, and my back sit a lot straighter.  It just makes me feel a lot more lady-like and womanly.  And therefore, I think you’re going to see a lot of it!
P.S.  In that last shot my dress was caught by the wind and started rising right up.  It’s my Marilyn moment…only she handled it with a lot more style!

My Baby Birthday Suit

Forgot make-up…again.  Ssseesh, I got to try to remember that
Dress – somewhere in Barcelona.

Hey, it’s Baby’s birthday *I’ll share all that with you later* but here’s the dress I’m wearing today.  It’s one of my favs.  I got it in Barcelona and wore it a lot while bumming around Europe.

I love how easy it is to throw on a maxi and head out the door.  It’s one of those things you really don’t have to put a lot of thought into, but it still looks put together.  That’s true of any dress really, but maxis especially.  I think because they’re so long, they’re a show all in themselves and they make a statement without really trying.

Just so you know, I didn’t manage to get any shots, but I’m actually just wearing a simple nude flat sandal with it.

Feminine, Flowery, and Flirty!

Shirt &Skirt – F21; Belt – AE; Shoes – Payless; Earrings – ?
I love being feminine, flowery, and flirty!
And I love an older silhouette.  This makes me think of something my grandmother would wear when she was younger, but that’s what I love about it.  Flowers and lace are kind of a timeless thing.  The key is to have some bright color and a creative way of tying a belt to make it seem young as opposed to ‘granny.’
Want to hear something crazy?  Right after these pics were taken I ran upstairs to wash my face.  Turns out I put on expired sunscreen and was having a reaction to it.  Yikes!  Not cool.  So my face is a little pink today.  Kind of matches my outfit.  C’est la vie.
One last thing, if you have 3 minutes check out my demo reel here.  Let me know what you think!
