My Favorite Girlfriend

Sweater & Cords – Le Chateau  //  Top – Ruche  //  Boots – Feet First
Flower necklace – F21  //  Tribal necklace – Threadsence  //  Scarf – street stand

Do you know who I love hanging out with?  My daughter.  Okay, yeah, I know it goes without saying so.  You love your children and you have to and that’s normal.  But I’m noticing that as she’s getting older, though I’m missing the baby cuddles, I’m loving the new fun and quirky girl I get to hang out with.  She’s so weird and she finds the oddest things funny!  What happens though, is that I end up laughing at those things too.  And so we spend a day full of laughing at weird things, and having strange conversations, and celebrating her farts.

Now it may not be high brow, and I may still need the occasional adult conversation, but I must say it’s becoming fun to hang out with her as a person and not just as my baby.

Joie de Vivre

Jacket – Billy the Flying Tomato via Threadsence  //  Shirt – Everly  //  Corduroys – Le Chateau
Boots – Feet First  //  Bag – Ruche  //  Zebra Necklace – Lustre from Montreal  //  Sunnies – F21

Just so you know, I’m obsessed with jackets lately.  It seems that every shop I visit I’m supernaturally drawn to their jackets.  It’s probably the dropping degrees in the weather that have me reaching for fun outerwear, but then again it might be something else.

Maybe I’m searching for ways to cover up.  Maybe I’m searching for the perfect finishing touches.  Maybe it’s my new Joie de Vivre over the film shoots and auditions and wonderful feedback.

Jackets, as a metaphor for life and the soul.  Who knew I could be so profound?
Certainly, not me.

Maybe jackets are just really cute, end of story.

How To Throw A One Woman Frat Party

Top – Smart Set
Sweater & Necklace – Ruche
Cords – Le Chateau
Shoes – Payless
Do you want to know what I’m doing right now?  Tonight?  Well, Andrew’s out of town, so I’ve put baby girl to bed, ironed a dress, done my abs, and now I’m sitting in front of the tv watching Stargate SG-1 while drinking a glass of Ontario Reisling.  Yup, I go crazy when my Husband leaves town!  Nuts I tell you!  How nuts?  Strawberries and chocolate coconut balls nuts!  How nuts? Sitting in my PJs with my feet on the ottoman nuts!  How nuts?  Drinking Perrier out of a mug nuts!
Yup, it’s pretty much a one women frat party here. Wanna come over?
True Story:
Baby tried to drink her bottle of juice.
She ended up splashing it up into her face while inhaling at the same time.
She stopped, stayed stock still in shock for about three seconds and then started to cry.
I picked her up,cuddled her, and silently giggled.
Yes, another bad mother moment.

100 Into Everything

Corduroys – Le Chateau
Boots – Threadsence
Earrings – c/o This Enchanted Pixie
Finally, after much scheduling issues and dealing with budget/tax issues *mostly those* I’m going to join a new Kung Fu school today in Toronto.  It’s been so long since I’ve studied at a studio, and I’m going to have to unlearn quite a few things, but I’m really looking forward to training and studying again.  I’m no Jet-Li but I do love the art and really, since I have no delusions that I’ll ever be Jet-Li, that’s all that matters.

I used to stress that I couldn’t throw myself 100% into everything because that’s what it took to be the best, but I’ve realized that I don’t need to be the best at everything.  There’s a lot of things I love, and as long as I’m doing what I love that’s what matters right?  On that note, have a great day doing what you love!

Not A Family Friendly Brat

Top – Gap
Cardi – Anthropologie
Cords – Le Chateau
Boots – Threadsence
Necklace – c/o Scarlet Samples
Last night I did ADR for a short film that I was in not too long ago, and I have to confess I’m a little brat!  *ADR is when you go into the studio and record some lines that may have been lost or fuzzy and match it up to your lips moving – harder than it sounds*
You see the film is about serious stuff, and the lines are serious stuff – people arguing, dying, etc. etc.  – but I couldn’t resist turning some of those lines into shall we say less-than-family-friendly material? It was just too tempting.  those lines, without context and the way we recorded some of the things were just begging for it!  And I’m not one to turn that down.  The screening is in a few weeks, and I’m so excited to see the whole thing on screen!

That’s Love

Hair bow – Etsy
Necklace & Earrings – F21
Ring – Lulus
Top – Ruche
Corduroys – Le Chateau
Boots – Feet First
I wish I had something profound to say to you on this Valentine’s Day.  Something about the power and magic of love, but I don’t.  Love is not that which we find in romantic comedies.  It doesn’t end when the two people get together, it starts.  What the movies don’t show you is the hard work that goes into sustaining a relationship for the long term.  They don’t show the loyalty and faith that couples have in one another when they stay with each other through trying and difficult times.  That’s love.
That, and a man who cooks for you, of course.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
True Story:
Baby looks at me, shakes her head, wags her finger and says, “No.”
I wonder where she learned that from?
Don’t answer that.

Outside The Box

Cardi – Old Navy
Top – Threadsence
Pant – Le Chateau
Boots – Feet First
Ring & Earrings – F21

I’ve been thinking about my sartorial attitude and I love that I’m really coming out of my own box when it comes to what I buy and wear.  I’m no longer afraid of being “cute” with dresses or sweater with penguins on them, and I’m trying things out I wouldn’t have tried before.  This top is a case in point. I really liked it when I saw it on the website but I wondered how in the world I would ever wear it, and whether I would actually wear it.  But I liked it so much I thought, “I’ll do it.  I’ll figure it out when it comes.”  And I’m so glad I took a chance because this asymmetrical chiffon top is wonderful, unique and feminine.  I’m so glad I took a risk and went outside my comfort zone to try something new.

True Story:
While sitting on the couch and reading an animal book, Baby takes my index finger and uses it to point at the animals asking, “What’s this?”  She continues to use my finger as her pointer, with her chubby fingers wrapped around it, for the duration of the exercise.
At which point I could retrieve my finger.

Saturday Smiles: Growth

Top – Trove; Pants – Le Chateau; Necklace – Lulus; Boots – Locale; Bag – hand me down.

Okay, time for another Saturday Smiles.  These are going to be challenges for me, because to be perfectly frank I’m a realist verging on the pessimist.  That means the glass is either half empty, or it’s just there regardless of your interpretation.  But in the spirit of change, and in the desire to have a more positive vibe around me I’m going to do this all year in the hopes that every time it’ll be easier and easier to find 3-5 things I’m thankful for or that made me smile.  And who knows, maybe soon I’ll have trouble keeping it down to ten!   Here it is, Saturday Smiles.

  1. Hope and change – without which I would be forever stagnant.
  2. This skirt – the bow just made me grin!
  3. Chocolate – honestly, I think I may have to ban this one from the list soon…it’s kind of a given.
  4. My treadmill – running keeps me sane!
  5. Katie’s comment on my Funny Face post where she says I’ve been reminding her of Audrey Hepburn.
True Story:
Standing in the tub, Baby tries to find her belly button.
She leans so far forward she face plants straight into the tub of water.
Cue shocked baby face, “Uh-oh!”

Birthday Outfit

Top – AE; Sweater – Gap; Pants – Le Chateau; Boots – Locale; Bag – Matt by Matt&Nat; Ring – Lulus.com.

First off, notice the awkwardness of taking outfits shots in a crowded boxing week sale mall?  Yeah, mega awkward!  Almost as awkward as that time I was shooting a music video in downtown Toronto in a silver catsuit….

Allmost, not quite though.  Anyway, I digress.

My husband took me out for my birthday and he said that I can’t get
dressed up. “Jeans and a hoodie, he said.  I at least negotiated a cute
sweater instead of a hoodie and cords instead of jeans.  And to be honest, I was upset that on my
birthday I couldn’t get all gussied up, so I decided to have my own
little rebellion by doing my nails a fun and bold color.  But the shooting lesson was worth the dressing down.  Oh and I found out why he told me not to get all fancy, because you have to have your cleavage and such covered in case the shell casings fly down your shirt.  That would suck, ’cause they burn.

Chelsea, my lady, that’s you!  I have to say that even though the draw is random, I was pulling for Chelsea.  She entered everyday!  And she tweeted her heart out about it, so I did I little cheer when I saw that her comment was lucky 13!   Email me your image and link and let’s get you set up ASAP.  Congrats lady!

Stay tuned for another giveaway coming in early January!
