Fringe in February

Sweater- C’est Moi via Trixie  //  Dress – 8000 Nerves via ModCloth  //  Tights – HUE  //  Boots – Feet First
Necklace – Threadsence  //  Belt – thrifted

So two things have happened.  One, I’ve gotten tired of February keeping me in pants with long johns or tights underneath.  And two, I finally got up the nerve to wear my ModCloth stylish surprise dress and in the middle of a frostbiting blustery day.  And I nearly froze my fingers off again taking these pictures.  So I guess that’s three things.

Pardon the wrinkled nature of the dress.  I did have it on all day with the babe, through the ordeal of forgetting items and running back to the house then back to the bus, and a test shoot with a very lovely lady.  While we’re on the subject of the dress, I love it.  It’s one of those pieces I never would’ve chosen myself but now it seems to fit seamlessly into the shifting aesthetic of my style.

If you haven’t noticed ModaMama is moving ever so subtly away from sweet dressing and more into a boho style lately.  Maybe I shouldn’t say it outright, maybe that’s some bloggers faux pas, but I find myself drawing away from certain sweet items like Peter Pan collars in favor of fringe and loose fitting soft materials.  Who knows.  One thing I love about fashion is it’s ever evolving reflection of the changing nature of our selves.

Stand By Me

Sweater- Jack from Girl Friday  //  Dress – Kimchi from Beacon’s Closet in NYC  //  Belt – F21 //  Tights – HUE  //  Boots – boutique in Rome, Italy.

When you set up your tripod and take off your jacket to take outfit pictures with your baby in the stroller next to you enough times, eventually she wants to get in on the action.  So as I set up my tripod, and took my place, she insisted on taking her hood off and posing right next to me for the camera.  Then she ran back and forth to double check on the photos.  You know, to make sure we had the shot.  I’m telling you, it’s getting real hard to not show her face here when she stands right beside me smiling into the lens.

Swaps And Jerks

Jacket – UO  //  Top – Lucy Love from Trixie //  Leggings – H&M  //  Cowl – ModCloth  //  Boots – Ruche *DIYed myself with the belts*

I was all comfy and cozy when I headed out to a recent clothing swap.  I love clothing swaps.  They’re so fun and it’s great to see everyone getting excited about clothes that you thought had come to the end of their life span.  It’s great because it’s so inspiring and refreshing in this day of “Just buy a new one.”  Also, I wanted to be really comfy and wear leggings so that I can easily throw things off and on.  I highly recommend organizing a swap with your friends.

True Story:
Andrew walked up to Baby Girl and tapped her on the bum.
She responded with, “No please.”
He did it again.
“No please Daddy.”
And again.
“Daddy, no Pleeease!”
He did it once more.
She points her index at him, furrows her brow and says, “Don’t be a jerk!”
He looks at me with a you-taught-her-this look.
I replied,”Well, you were being a jerk.”

Broken Kettle

Sweater – F21  //  Top – ModCloth  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Locale  //  Bag & Necklace – Ruche

Do you know why I have a slight grimace in these pictures?  Because it’s freezing!  It was so cold I almost got frostbite in the five minutes it took to take these pictures.  I had to warm up my fingers to get the feeling back enough to put my camera away.   Why do I say this?  I say this to reiterate why I hate this time of year.

Oh and to add insult to injury our kettle broke.  So I’m boiling water for my tea in a pot over the stove.  In a pot people.

*THUD*

Coat – UO  //  Scarf – Kensie  //  Sweater – made by my Babcia  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Le Petite Pieds

Geez!  Seriously, it has not stopped pouring lately, except when it’s decided to snowstorm.  It stops raining for that.  Yup.  Loads of fun here, I tell you.   I’ve gotten to that point.  You know the one, where it’s been cold for so long, and you’ve been layering for so long, that you start to hate the clothes in your closet ’cause you’re just going to have to layer and layer and layer.  *Side note: If you have no idea what I’m talking about then you live in a perpetually warm climate and I kind of hating you a little bit right now.  Just a little bit*  But yes, I’ve hit that moment ladies and gentlemen.  I’ve hit that wall right smack with my forehead with the power of a resounding, “Thud!”

And it’s only February.

p.s. Wanna see me be sort of funny in a self-tape audition?

Young and Stupid

Did I ever mention that I’m smart?  No really, I swear I am.  I’m so smart I decided that standing in a dress with no coat on, in the middle of a snowstorm, on the way to kids group just to get some pretty pictures was a good idea.   Me and Baby Girl walked there, though maybe I should call her Baby Abominable Snowman since by the time we arrived she was buried under a two inch layer of snow in the stroller, not moving and just glaring at the world with her toddler brows furrowed.
It was all worth it though because not only did she have a great time playing, but I was also asked if I was the babysitter and got a huge, “NO! You’re too young!” when I said I was the mama.  So, I would do it again.  ‘Cause I’m just brilliant that way, or I’m just too young to any better.  *wink wink*

You May Stop Traffic…

…but I bring down fences.  Or so I would have you believe.  The truth is a lot less glamorous and not at all flattering to me.  We had a huge storm that blew off the fence separating our backyard from the neighbors.  That’s it.  Nothing fun or glamorous, and kind of depressing considering we’ll have to pay to get the fence re-done in the Spring.  So for now, I’m going to pretend that the fence was just totally blown away by the awesomeness of my dress. ‘Cause that’s a lot more fun, and kind of superpowery too.

Free Shopping Spree

Dress – Le Chateau *hand me down*  //  Tights – F21  //  Hat – made by my mom  //  Boots – Locale
Zebra necklace – Lustre from Montreal  //  Gold Necklace from Ten thousand Villages

I love it when my mom cleans out her closet.  She comes down with garbage bags full of great clothes.  It’s like a fun shopping spree for free!  The best kind, of course. Though we may not be the same size, I always find some fun tops, sweaters, and even the occasional dress. *like the one above*

That’s something to consider when swapping, you don’t have to be the same size.  My mom is shorter and she’s got a little more junk in the trunk.  So I don’t usually get pants because it’s hard to lengthen pants and get the perfect fit, but because she likes her clothes more fitted, and I like a lot of things looser and more flowy I still end up with a great haul.  Something to think about when debating a clothes swap with your friends too – you don’t all have to be the same size.

Now the issue is how to get a bigger closet.

Tried and True, T-Shirt and Jeans Blue

Tee & Jeans – Gap  //  Blue Shirt – Ruche  //  Boots – Le Petite Pieds
Gold Bracelt – Threadsence  //  Jacket, Turquoise Bracelet, and earrings – F21

The unseasonably warm weather had the whole family heading out to the pond for a fun, if muddy, walk.  And the laid back attitude of the whole day had me reaching for the trusty jeans and t-shirt combo.  But knowing me, I couldn’t let it go by without sprucing things up just a touch with some layering and fun accessories.  I mean, what’s the fun in just leaving it plain?  There’s no reason that even a tried and true combo can’t be different and unique.

A family walk is also a great time to just play with some combos, ’cause if you look ridiculous it doesn’t matter.  You’re with your family and they have to stick with you all the way home.

New Year, New Look

Okay, so clearly these photos were taken before we got dumped on with snow here.  I haven’t had a chance to post them yet, so before they get super duper old, here it is.  I hope you all are doing exceptionally well this fine day.  I’m excited for ModaMama to have a newer sleeker look for the start of 2013.  I just really like the simple minimalist look you know, and wanted a polished finish.  So that’s where I hope we are right now with the look of the site.

In other news, I get a whole day out today to game.  That’s right I’m getting my boardgame geek on today!
