Fancy For the Everyday

You know I’m all about the everyday.

Frak, I’m Growing or Something

It’s quiet here. And not in a good way.

I have a few. Those standards go-tos. You know, the ones you reach for without really thinking.  Obviously, my Polish scarf is on that list. As is a gorgeous black one from Kish & Evie – you’ll be seeing that a lot this Winter.

But a new go-to is this tapestry scarf from HoneyBea. I found HoneyBea at the Port Dover Arts festival. She stopped me and asked about my dress, and we bonded over our mutual love of Spell & the Gypsy Collective. I fell in love with her stylings too. Very boho, but completely geared towards our cold Canadian climate. The cardigans are killer and I definitely want to add one to my wardrobe at some point. But at that moment in time, this tapestry scarf caught my eye.

It’s made from recycled fabrics, and stitched together with love and care. There’s nothing better than a beautiful piece that is locally made and recycled too.

The heavy structure of the fabrics makes it really warm, and the patterns all work well together to create a lovely neutral blend; so it can go with anything.

Skirt & Cardigan – Ruche  //  Top – UO  //  Belt – I forget  //  Boots – ThreadSence  //  Bag – thrifted  //  Metallic tattoo – eBay

Sometimes I think I’m completely crazy.  On this day, on one of the coldest Februarys on record, I took off all my layers and posed for the camera to grab outfit shots.  Yup, completely certifiable.

But seriously, maxi skirts and dresses are a great way to stay chic during the colder months because they look great but also allow for leggings and thigh high wool socks underneath….which you can bet that I had on!  It’s all about the layers and layers I tell ya.

What’s awesome is that right now, I’m in Miami.  Enjoying the much warmer temps.  See you in a few days and expect some much warmer and funner pictures.  Ones where I’m not wondernig if I’ve gotten frostbite on my clavicle.

merci

Just before the mountains of snow descended upon us, before the weather fell to a painful minus thirty nine degrees celsius, before Toronto turned into the ice planet Hoth, I went out.  I went out and got some photos on a balm plus one degree day.  It’s sad to think that I long for the warmth of plus one.

I stood there taking pictures for the launch party of another brand, and I remember thinking, “This isn’t too bad.  I could handle this kind of Winter.”  Oh what a fool I was.  I had no idea what was coming.  Every year around this time, the outfit posts slow, because I doubt you guys are interested in seeing the same pair of eyes peeking out from under the same blanket day in and day out…sitting beside a space heater.

An Appropriate Time To Take Your Shoes Off

Jacket – Gap  //  Sweater – Mexx  //  Dress – Love Audrey *get one in Coral from Threadsence
Tights – F21  //  Scarves – street stand  //  Boots – Locale  //  Bag – Ruche
Give me a great dress, a fabulous jacket, and a large bag and I can rule the world.  Not literally of course, but somehow this is the perfect trifecta of sartorial brilliance to make me feel confident with who I am.

This is also the outfit I wore to a recent audition where in the middle of it I took off my boot.  To be fair, it was relevant and part of the scene, but I don’t think they expected me to do it.  Nor to continue the rest of the scene waving my boot around.

I got excellent feedback from that audition and they were “impressed with me.”  That seals it, I’m taking off my boot at every audition from now on.
