When the growth of the town accelerated, the lovely maple trees around town started dying because of the pollution and age.

The mayor had a brilliant idea of saving those trees in a unique way. Instead of ripping them out and planting something else, he cut the dying trees down to about 3-4 meters and hired artists, carvers, to turn them into pieces of woodwork art. Now, the almost sixty carvings around town, done by about 20 artists, decorate the town with their unique looks and live on.

It was also a great opportunity for a quick little coffee break at Mochaberry. Always appreciated.
