Sometimes the behind the scenes of these outfit pictures are the better story than the pictures.  Not thirty minutes ago I fell on my bike and thought I broke my toe.  Did I go to the hospital?  No.  The Doctor?  No.  I stopped to take outfit photos, then joined a friend for coffee, and went to a fun Guess event.  Then rode my bike home.

I did however, buy a tension bandage along the way and wrap my toe for the night’s festivities.  Luckily, by the time I got home, I was pretty sure that despite being black *eek!  Yes it was/is black and bruised* that it’s nothing too serious since I was in relatively little pain with no pain killers…as long as I didn’t try to walk on it.

*SuperHero Stance* I laugh in the face of pain!
Ouch.

Fully entrenched in summer, I walk out every morning eager to check on my growing garden.  My girl helps me tend it, and helps to water with her very own little watering can.  She’s learned that to grow things need sun, and food, and water.

So when we last finished our watering of the garden, I headed back towards the house only to hear water pouring behind me.  I turned around to witness my girl pouring water all over herself.  When asked what she was doing she replied without hesitation, “I water myself so I grow Mama.”

Can’t fault her logic.

Summer Winds

Wind.  The summer wind.  In the Winter I hide from it and curse it, and pull my hood around me even tighter.  I run from it and look for shelter as fast as possible.

But in the Spring, in the Summer,  I bask in it.  I feel it as it pushes against me when I ride my bike.  I laugh as it turns my unruly hair even more unruly.  I smirk as I attempt to hold it back from my face, and yet still see the world through tousled brown.

And I welcome it’s warm and cooling affect.

Usually I start to seriously think about my garden around this time of year, but with temperatures hanging just barely above the freezing mark it’s the furthest thing from my mind.  I have my seeds ready and my girl and I stand with baited breath for those warmer days to start so we can grow our own delicious food.

In the mean time, we’ve signed up for a delivery service offered here.  It’s a service that delivers a huge box of fresh organic produce to our doorstep.  Not only is it super convenient to have it all just appear, but it challenges us by giving us things we wouldn’t always buy. It’s just freed us up quite a bit and I love it.  Plus, since it’s all organic we end up getting more creative so that we can use up every single last little bit.

I know.  I’m geeking about organic produce and home gardens.

Remember when I told you we’re firmly in that “Why” stage?  Well, it’s truly and firmly engraved.  Changing her diaper while she was sleeping, I rolled her over and she ejected a spontaneous “why?!” in her sleep.

I whispered, “Because it stinks.”

Pretty sure she didn’t hear me though.

My Kid Deals Out Mommy Crack

When your kid’s throwing a huge tantrum, or just plain being demanding, when you haven’t slept, or eaten because you’ve been running ragged, and when they’ve fallen *or whatever* despite being told four dozen times not to do it or “You’ll hurt yourself,” that’s when you pick them up and hope that it makes them quiet for a moment.

And that’s when they dose you.  Don’t be fooled.  It’s not an accident, and it’s not coincidental.  I’m firmly convinced that my kid knows exactly when to release that smell.  The one on the top of their heads.  You know the one I’m talking about.  The one that sends you into perfect relaxation and bliss.   The one that makes you love them and feel like being with them is Nirvana. I don’t know what the technical term for it is, but I like to think of it as “Mommy crack.”

She’s got it down to a fine art.  She’s got it timed.  She knows exactly when her Mama needs her next fix so as to not go completely off the rails.  She’s my drug dealer, and she’s also the supply.  So I can’t cut out the middleman in this.

The drug is the middle man.

It’s Official, I Hate Children’s Building Blocks

.  Never mind that I step on them several times a day and either hurt my foot, or trip and hit some other part of my body.  Never mind that they get everywhere and are impossible to all corral into the same box.  No, that’s not why I hate them.

I hate them because Baby Girl loves them.  She loves them so much that she wants, “Mommy, you come build with me?”  all day and every day.  I have built something at least twenty times a day for the last two weeks.  And that’s about the limit of my sanity.

I hate building blocks.  Hate them!

“Yes, I’m coming to build with you honey.”

Girl Time At The Tristan Fragrance Launch at Yorkdale

Brocade faux leather dress – Under Skies via Shopruche  //  Shoes – Clarks  //  Tights – unknown  //  Bracelets – F21 and one was a gift from my Babcia

Last night, I got to dress up a little and head out to the Tristan fragrance launch.  I thought this cute brocade dress with leather trim on the shoulders was the perfect number to throw on.  Vintage-esque with a hint of edge, and the cut out detail is just perfect.

My hot ‘date’ for the night was a good friend of mine, Monica, and we shopped, browsed and basically just had a blast thanks to our lovely hosts and their delicious cupcakes.  Personally, having been home most of the day struggling between finding time to edit photos on my computer and wrangling a toddler in the midst of a temper tantrum, I more than relished the chance to get out and not have to put a human being into a corner for time out….again.

Needless to say it was a welcome diversion, and the scent is lovely; light, crisp, and fresh.  It’s a scent that makes me think of Spring.  Which is rather bittersweet considering how far, far, away we are from Spring.  Ugh, such a freakin’ tease.

What Rules!?: Loose Woman

Pants – Skies Are Blue  //  Shirt – Gap  //  Sweater – Jana  //  Shoes – H&M  //  Necklace and earrings – old and I forget
There was this old belief in the 50s that you if you wore high heels with cropped pants you had loose morals.  So, one rule for ladies was that you never did so.  Today, this clearly loose woman *what with the Husband and child* is breaking the rule of wearing cropped pants with high heels.
Except that for some reason my cropped pants look like full length pants in these shots.  Perhaps it was the fact that I was hunching and withdrawn as the icy wind blew in my face? Made me about 4 inches shorter.
And I’d like to mentioned that I had an audience of six while taking these shots – construction workers that are tearing up our street gave me more than a few eyebrows, from under their hats and big parkas, as they watched the crazy lady with her tripod.
So maybe I’m not loose, just weird?
I’m okay with that.
Next week, I’ll be mixing leopard with plaid.  So if you want to do that, feel free and leave your link in the comments of next weeks post.

The link up was a bit of a failure.  I think that means you guys just want some inspiration.  Which is totally cool with me!  So I’m going to continue breaking fashion rules, and if you’d like to join me leave your link in the comments and I’ll be sure to check them out.  ‘Cause I love seeing what you do too.

Next week I’m breaking a rule from the 50’s that said you should never wear high heels with cropped pants.  Apparently the connotation was that you were more than a bit promiscuous.  So I’m breakin’ that rule next week before it gets too cold to do so.
