The Boot Fairy

Jacket – Old Navy; Dress – Dear Creatures from Ruche; Belt – AE: Socks – Hue; Wellies – Petite Pieds.

Okay, I’ll fully admit that these aren’t the bets pics.  But if you read about me, you’ll see that I preface this whole blog by saying I’ll make plenty of mistakes.  First, the humidity in the air completely ruined my hair, so by the time I took the pics I had to throw it up in a ponytail and even then it looked just plain baaad.   Second, why does it always stop raining when I put on my wellies???  Is it some cruel joke being played on me?  Make Joanna look silly by making it sunny when she gets her rain boots on?  *sigh*  Well, the jokes on you, ’cause I wore them anyway.

Speaking of rain boots, I want a pair of hunter wellies, but I know I won’t find the room in my budget.  So hopefully one day someone will give me a pair as a gift.  The magic boot fairy perhaps?  What, she exists doesn’t she?

Regrets, I’ve Had a Few

Scarf – Trove; Dress & Ring – Spotted Moth; Booties – Ruche.

Do you have regrets?  I do.  I used to say I didn’t.  I think I said it because I was prideful, as in “everything is perfect, exactly how I want it and I don’t make mistakes.” And I don’t know if it was true at the time or not, but these days I have them.  Yes, the choices I’ve made have led me to the point I’m at now and there are so many things I’m thankful for.  But the nature of regrets is the ‘could-have-been’ nature to them.  You wonder, “Was that the better choice?”   I think I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be, but that doesn’t mean that at 5am in the morning I don’t regret. I regret choices. *I was younger and stupider…hard to believe I know* I regret actions.  I regret things I said, and things I didn’t say.

I think regrets aren’t a bad thing.  It means you’ve grown and if you knew then what you know now, you would behave different.

Sorry, don’t mean to be a downer.  Ice cream anyone?

  True Story:
I come into the living room last night and Drake the Dog is sprawled, spread eagled on his back on Husband’s lap, who’s giving him belly scratches.
I felt like I was intruding.

“More Bums!”

Belt – H&M; Dress – Coco&Tashi.

Happy Friday to you all!  I hope you’re having a wonderful morning.  I’m trying to tackle my to-do list this morning and I’m happy to say that one huuuuuge thing is scrathed off the list:  I’ve completely caught up on the scrapbook album for Baby.  That’s been a weight on me for a while seeing as I’ve fallen so far behind.  But now that it’s done, I feel energized to tackle some of my other things.

Let’s see how it goes.

The Single Child Phenomenon

Dress – bought in London, England for $5!; Shoes – Zellers (on him – I don’t know, probably Value Village).

I wore this happy dress on the last day of my anniversary trip.  It’s such an easy dress to throw on ’cause the silhouette is so classic and flattering and the print is just so joyous.  I’m a big fan of happy prints.  They can just brighten your day like nothing else.

On our anniversary we were reflecting on the last seven years, and the changes and choices we’ve made.  And once again we checked in with each other about our decision to have one child.  We periodically check in just to make sure we’re still on the same page.  And a lot of relatives and friends chide us for that decision.  They’re strongest and most common argument is that Baby needs a sibling and playmate.  To me that’s not a valid reason because I don’t want to reason for another human beings existence to be as a “sibling and playmate” for another human being.  And since we’re not drawn or moved to have another I don’t see why we should.

On that note, I was recently reading in the September issue of Marie Claire that only children “tend to work faster and have better vocabularies; they develop a confidence and self-contained quality.”  And further they get plenty of socialization from friends, activities and school.   No longer is being an only child a hindrance as others thought.  And you know what?  I have siblings, but my soul sister is my best friend.

And when it comes to sibling rivalry – Drake the Dog constantly steals her toys causing tumultuous temper tantrums.  Trust me.  I’ve been privy to many such displays.

Reaching For Nostalgic Pieces

Necklace – in Dominican Republic; Bracelet – F21; Dress – Stradivarius; Sandals – Zellers.

Had a rehearsal for Posthuman yesterday (check that out here).  It went really well and I’m excited about the shoot on Sunday.  Other than that, I’ve been crazy, hectic busy trying to get through my ‘To-Do’ list.  It feels like it just keeps getting longer and nothing seems to be getting crossed out.  I really wish there were about 39 hours in the day.

Since I’m slightly insomniac lately and therefore not functioning at optimum capacity, I decided to wear my favorite dress.  Wearing this dress always makes me feel better.  I got it in Barcelona, and wore it all throughout Spain; so whenever I wear it it brings me back to sunny days spent walking along the beach and enjoying menu del dias.  What’s your favorite nostalgic piece?

A Dinner Seven Years In The Making

Dress – Ruche; Shoes – Aldo; Belt – H&M.

As you know, I’m a polka dot fiend, but recently I’ve been loving the color red, so this dress was a perfect combination of an old obsession with a burgeoning new one.  And it’s comfortable too.  Oh and a tip, it packs well.  No creases what-so-ever.

So, Dinner was at the local music pub.  Not a fancy place, but one with a cool vibe and a live blue-grass player.  He had gray dreadlocks. Can we say cool A-ttitude

During dinner we had wondered what to do afterwards, but Mother Nature made the decision for us by providing a torrential downpour that made us quickly go back to the hotel room where we watched a movie and ate decadent chocolate! Mmmmm…chocolate…with cookies crumbs.

Never give your child oatmeal with fresh blueberries while she’s wearing a white shirt…and insists on feeding herself.

Wine And Coral

Glasses – F21; Dress – Ruche; Shoes – Aldo.

So I copped out of Random Sundays, and Tuesday In Review this week because I’ve been away.  Husband and I celebrated 7 years together on Sunday and we went away for our first night by ourselves since Baby was born.  So you guys will forgive me right?  Thiiis time.

We went to Prince Edward County in Ontario, which is another wine region in the province – the main one being Niagara.  This region produces drier wines because of it’s harsher climate.  And we enjoyed tasting what the wineries had to offer.  I thought since we’re going away and tasting wines I wanted to be bright and colorful, hence, I chose this cheery coral dress.  I don’t have a lot of coral, but I’m loving the color lately and this dress is just perfect!  It’s breezy and light and so easy to wear.  And I loved that I was the brightest colored person in every winery tasting room.

Oh, and did you notice the heels?  I haven’t worn heels in forever ’cause I’m usually too busy running after/with Baby to wear heels.  But no Baby = heels!  Husband wasn’t tooo crazy about them since it makes me taller than him, but oh well.  Tough luck.

Side note:  I need a haircut!

Polka Dot Ramblings And A Winner Announced

Dress – Ruche or Modcloth;  Belt – F21; Shoes – Payless.

Can I just say that I love polka dots?  I think I’m completely obsessed with them.  Anything I see with polka dots grabs my attention and won’t let go.  So when I saw this dress a while back I was in love.  And it wasn’t just the dots, it was the fact that it was such a timeless shape.  Though to be fully honest, I didn’t like my hair after I saw these shots and decided to throw it up in a pony before heading out.
I need a haircut.

True Story:
Yesterday I made myself a shake and once I had turned on the blender I turned around to check on Baby, who’s usually afraid of the thing, only to find her….dancing!  She was dancing to the whirring.  Kids are funny.

Diaper Whisperer At Your Service

Hat – gift from Husband; Dress – Covet; Belt – from this Ruche dress; Shoes – Payless; Purse – Matt by Matt&Nat.

I got this Covet number just a little while ago and it’s quickly becoming a favorite.  It’s so light and breathable, but so versatile in the styling possibilities as well.  I’m already dreaming up outfits for fall around this piece.  And I love how you can change the feel of an outfit by adding a different belt.  I removed the one that came with the dress and added a relaxed woven belt and it gave the whole look a new feel.  I’m also thinking of wearing this dress with a bright wide belt soon – just to play and see what happens.

True Story:
Recently Baby had a poo just after she fell asleep for the night.  I couldn’t leave her in it all night – that would be very bad for her sensitive baby skin.  So I had to change it.  I was resigned to the fact that I would wake her in the process, but still had hope.
So I first opened and laid out the new diaper nearby, and prepped a wipe.  Then I gingerly undid the old diaper and lifted it ever so delicately off her.  I gently wiped her.  And then came the tricky part.
I had to lift her bum up in the air to place the new diaper under her.  As I did that she rolled over.  So then I had to roll her over onto her back again, but as I did so I placed the diaper in place at the same time.
Quickly put two tabs in place and literally pounced out of the room as she stirred and re-adjusted.
Then I did a little silent fist pump dance to Husband.
I AM THE DIAPER WHISPERER!!!!

Let The Sunshine In

Belt – H&M; Wedges – Payless.

I thought about wearing white shoes with this outfit but I don’t really like it when things are too matchy-matchy; so instead, I went with nude wedges.  I think it looks better.  This has to be one of the easiest dresses to wear.  It’s comfy, breathable, and styles so easily.  And its available in so many varying options.  I bought mine from Ruche, but you can get one in jade from Dress 911, or a green one from Spotted Moth one as well.   And if you’re plus size, pick up this ivory one from Modcloth, or this coral one from Ruche.

Remember, when I swore off shopping? Yeah, I’ve failed miserably at this.  Well, not “miserably” – it’s not like I’m in debt or have gone outside my means.  Just done really poorly in terms of will power.  But I keep trying.  And I’ve got a renewed energy to do so.  Partly because of the sunshine.  Partly because things have really picked up.  I’m hopefully going to have some exciting stuff to share with you in the coming months.
