Pruned and Planted

Shirt – hand me down
Dress – Ruche or Modcloth
Shoes – thrifted *they’re my mucking about the yard shoes*
Got my garden done!  I pruned, seeded, and planted!  Now I can’t wait until my delicious and organic garden grows!  I’ve got golden cherry tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, spinach, mixed colored carrots and plenty of herbs.  But the surprising thing this year was how much the raspberry bushes grew!
So as I tweeted yesterday, I’ve got my post-apocalyptic skill set ready: swords, firearms, and gardening.  Speaking of firearms *and only because I got to carry a fake one* we wrapped the new premiere episode of Posthuman.  Everything’s been re-shuffled and reorganized for the June premiere on the SFN network.  Stay tuned, and I hope you check it out!
True Story:
I love how when I lift baby girl from her crib she automatically assumes the position of wrapped legs around my torso, arm around me shoulder, and head nuzzled in to neck.
It’s so precious and cuddly.  I can’t get enough!

I’m Baaaaack

Top – Ruche
 Dress – Modcloth
Boots – Threadsence
Socks – F21
Sunnies – Lace Affair
I’ve been so MIA on social media and this blog for the last week because my computer’s been in the shop – but now it’s back….for now. *cue ominous music*  It’s not doing too well, the poor babe.   I’m not sure how long it’ll be before it totally craps out on me and dies a permanent death.  Thank goodness I had the sense to back up everything before it went in, because they had to replace my hard drive!  Anyway, I’m back for now…do a little dance, sing a little song.  I hope you lovely folks had a wonderful Mother’s day.  I certainly did.  I shot Posthuman today and then came home to a lovely meal and enjoyed my Mother’s Day present:  season one of Spartacus!  I love me some raunchy violent Romans!
p.s.  I haven’t yet chosen the winner of the SuperHero contest because of all this craziness and shooting.  But it’s on my to-do for the next two days.  Sorry!
True Story:
So remember Baby Girl’s issues with the ‘r’ in “fork?”
Well, now the ‘f’ has become a ‘c.’
If you’re following, her “fork”  now sound like *spelled phonetically* “k-o-k.”
Endless laughter at the dinner table!

Don’t Suffer Fashion

Dress – Ruche
Necklace – c/o Mama’s Nests Designs
Belt – F21
Shoes – Payless
Earrings – somewhere on Etsy

I was on set all day yesterday for a commercial shoot *details will be on my acting blog* , so this isn’t the outfit I wore…it’s actually from a couple of days ago.  I love how soft and delicate and gentle this dress is, if a dress can be described as gentle.  Free flowing ruffles, chiffon, and comfort are key things in fashion for me.  Whether it’s a great leather jacket, or a frilly dress they have to be comfortable.  I don’t suffer for fashion, I live in it, and life is sometimes challenging enough without the added discomfort of a pinching outfit or painful shoes.

Elusive Eloquence

Cardi – Esprit
Top – Costa Blanca
Dress –Ruche or Threadsence or Modcloth
Boots – Threadsence
Tights – F21

May I introduce you to the greatest thing in taking self photos, the remote control.  I got mine in the mail a few days back and it makes taking self-portraits with your camera and tripod so much easier!  You do a few test shots to find the lighting and position you like then, snap, snap, snap away.  Love it!
I’m not very eloquent lately in my posts, that probably has to do with the fact that it’s very busy around here with auditions, shoots, rehearsals and table reads.  That, and planning a bridal shower.   Eloquence will return on or after May6th….I hope.

p.s. I revamped my acting site. Take a look!

True Story:
Baby’s going to be a genius.
I know every parent says and thinks that, but I’m right.
She walked into the room with a book.
Sat down on the couch, opened it, and remained there reading intently for the next several minutes.
The book was Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.”
See I told you.

How The Dream Ends

Dress – Ruche
Sweater – Threadsence or Ruche
Tights – F21
Boots – Feet First
Necklace – gift from my Aunt.
This long weekend, though I’m working, I’m hoping to enjoy some bbq and sunshine with my family.  I’m excited about a shoot I’ve got coming up on Monday – should be fun to shoot a couple of friends I’ve known for over a decade! Oh, and do you know how much I love getting fan feedback?  So much!  Read about that and more here on my acting site.
But in all this I am in some real fear.  I had a nightmare that I left home on the bus and it wasn’t until I got down to the subway (15 minutes away) that I realized that I had left Baby home alone.  In my dream I panicked and jumped into a cab right away.  Then I woke up so I have no idea how the dream ends, but I’ll tell you this, it really scared me.  It scared me because I’m so exhausted right now, that I can feasible imagine myself leaving the house and forgetting that she’s home alone with no one to watch her.  It’s ridiculous because I know I never would, but it’s a fear, a phobia, which means that it’s irrational by nature.   It’s fun being a mama, eh?

p.s. Some outfits suck.  This was one of them.

Psychological Warfare With A Toddler

Pearl earrings – c/o Scarlet Samples
Dress – Ruche
Belt – F21
Shoes – Threadsence

I love my baby, but I’m pretty much convinced at this point that she’s trying to break down my sanity.

She’s hit the terrible twos early – everything is “Neo!” *her ‘no’* and crying temper tantrums when she doesn’t get exactly her own way.  My Mama calls it karma.  Thanks Mom.  I know she’s asserting her independence and that I just have to be patient, let her make as many choices as possible to give her some control, and then just show even more patience…blah, blah, blah.  *I’m not a patient person by nature*  Honestly though, I really think she’s embarked on some kind of psychological warfare with me.

She wanted to go for a walk. I didn’t, but after much  Neo-ing and whining I gave in and said, “Okay, fine. We’ll go.  Get your hat and shoes.”  She did.  I got mine, and headed for the front door.  She headed for the back.

I said, “Let’s go.”
“Neo” She wanted to go out the back door.
“We have to go out the front, so mama can lock the house.”
“Neo”

This went back and forth for a while.

I thought, “What are you doing to me kid?  I’m giving in.  I’m giving you what you want.  We’re going for the darn walk!” *and by ‘darn’ I may mean another word*

She wouldn’t budge.  It was a Mexican stand off.  That devolved into a 15 minute temper tantrum….by her, not me – let’s be clear about this.

I’m convinced she’s trying to make me lose my sanity.  But the joke’s on her…I lost it years ago.  Haha! I win!
Oh crap, wait.

The Rest Is Silence

Vest – AE
Dress – bought in London, UK
Shoes – Payless
Sometimes I don’t know what to say or do.  Sometimes on these days I say and do something really stupid.  So today I’m just going to sit in silence.  I will say this though – This dress was all of four pounds in the UK several years ago – that’s $8!  Now that’s a deal.

Decorate Not Dictate

Jacket – Old Navy
Dress – bought in Spain
Scarf – Lace Affair
Socks – F21
Boots – Threadsence
I did a great shoot a few days back with a really fun couple, and I’ve got some amazing photos to edit.  I wore this number to shoot and crawled, jumped, and climbed in it.  I’m not one to let a skirt, or a nice dress stop me from rolling in the mud if that’s what it takes to get a great shot.  I figure, as much as I love them, they’re just clothes.  They’re here to decorate my life, not dictate how I live it.
Speaking of those shots, the beautiful weather has delayed me in posting them, but I swear they’ll be up soon!

Tuck That Right In

Cardi – Old Navy
Dress – Trashy Diva
Shoes – Payless
Earrings & Necklace – c/o/ This Enchanted Pixie

I’ve got some really great friends! We had an impromptu Snakes&Lattes meet up. *For everyone, Snakes&Lattes is a cafe where you pay a small cover then play every and any board game imaginable – it’s nerd heaven….so it’s my heaven!*  Fun games and even met two new people that I’ll maybe see again at another meet up.  And I’ve got an epic BSG game planned for Saturday March 31st…with both expansions.   Okay, is my nerd showing?  Oops, I think it’s peeking out the hem of my dress.  Let’s just tuck that right back in there.

p.s. yes, this is the same cardi as in this post.  I re-wear stuff.  I’ve only got one closet…for now. *insert evil laugh here*

True Story:
Baby’s developed a serious obsession with grapefruits.
She eats one to one and a half per day.
But don’t try to give her an orange instead.
She’ll “Neo!” and shake her head to set you straight.

At Home

Sweater & Leaf Necklace – F21
Birdcage Necklace – c/o This Enchanted Pixie
Boots – Locale
Dress – From Ruche (sold out). Similar from Lace Affair.

I sometimes long for that perfect uniform that defines me, finding something that is the perfect expression of who I am and how I wish to be perceived.  I’ve written before about how I feel like a wild swinging pendulum in that respect, but I’ve also realized that I do have an outfit, or combination, where I feel most comfortable.  It’s boots and a dress.  A great dress and a comfortable, and cool, pair of boots are when I feel most myself and most relaxed.  I think it’s the femininity and softness of a dress, combined with the laid-back ease of boots that appeals.  That’s where I feel most at home.
Jeans and a t-shirt come no where close to making me feel this comfortable.
I’d love to hear what combo makes you feel at home?
