The whole “Mint & Coral” trend has been going on this Spring.  Putting aside that, as you know,  I don’t believe in trends – wear what you like and what works regardless of trend.  I saw all these mint and blush outfits and thought, “I’m never going to wear that!”  And it’s sort of still true.

I saw all these pale mints and pale, pale blushes everywhere.  I knew I would never wear that.  First it was too pale for me and would wash me out.  Second, it was too dainty and feminine for me.  Looks lovely on others, but I like something a little bolder and dramatic.

So I kind of fell into this outfit by accident.  I loved, loved the skirt.  The flow, the movement, how it blew in the wind.  It made me feel like a mystical creature.  And the bright, bold tank was just so stunning and too beautiful to pass up.  Paired together, with a vivid necklace I think this brighter, more dramatic version of “Mint&Blush” works for someone who’s definitely not dainty.

I’ve been watching Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations.  Binge watching it actually.  So now all I want to do is travel and eat delicious food.  That’s the current fantasy – travel, see all these incredible places and people and eat their food.  Basically, be a professional guest.  Can I do that?

Summer Winds

Wind.  The summer wind.  In the Winter I hide from it and curse it, and pull my hood around me even tighter.  I run from it and look for shelter as fast as possible.

But in the Spring, in the Summer,  I bask in it.  I feel it as it pushes against me when I ride my bike.  I laugh as it turns my unruly hair even more unruly.  I smirk as I attempt to hold it back from my face, and yet still see the world through tousled brown.

And I welcome it’s warm and cooling affect.

What makes a great pair of sandals?  Style, versatility, and, for me at least, comfort.  I love that these have a little bit of stud detailing on the sides.  What’s cool is that they look so solid and yet are surprisingly light.  Definitely a bonus for walking about all day.  And let’s talk about the wedge.  This wedge is so great.  It gives you the height of a heel and yet is solid and comfy enough that you can wear these all day.

Now if you’re like me, you’ll love adding color to your Frida sandals, but if you like a bit of a toned down look – sans leopard maxi and bright bag – they work for that too.  Of an there’s more than just this color, and more than just this style.  There’s a huge selection of texture and color! Excited yet?  Good.  Dansko is kindly offering one lucky ModaMama reader a pair of sandals of their choice.  Just use the widget to enter.

When Aches Bring Joy

Casually the Spring warmth is coming.  It’s still firmly jacket season, but my bike has made it’s permanent debut.  Yesterday was my first long ride running errands and such, and my quads, butt and thighs have remembered what it’s like to spend an hour and a half on a cycle.  This ache in my legs truly signals Spring and Summer for me.  It’s weird to associate joy with such a physical ache – but hey, we all know I’m a bit off my rocker anyway.

At night, before going to bed, I always go in and check on my girl.  Usually, I change her diaper, put her back to bed from whatever weird position she’s got herself into, give her a kiss, and tell her I love her.  She never wakes up, just sleeps through it all, but she does often talk to me.

I lean in close to kiss her, and whisper in her ear that I love her.  She replies matter of factly, “I know.”

Motivated by May The 4th Be With You day, I thought about bringing a little of both my favorites things about May 4th into this outfit – Star Wars day and Audrey Hepburn’s birthday.  Don’t see it yet?  Well, the hair is influenced by the braided crown of Princess Leia in Empire Strikes Back on the planet Hoth, and AUdrey Hepburn comes in with a little touch of classic silhouette in the dress, and a general ladylike tone.  Now you see it riiight?

And now you’re also shaking your head, thinking, “Nerd!”

Yup, present and accounted for.

Most mornings, my girl wakes up and walks right up to my bed and wakes me, or stares creepily at me until I wake up *but that’s another story*.  But something very odd has happened three times so far.  She’ll wake up, go downstairs, and cry on the couch.  I’ll here her crying, “Mama?  Mama?!”  and it progresses to, “Someone help me!  Help me!!”  Side note:  I’m not listening to this in some sadistic way, it’s what slowly wakes me up and it’s not until I fully wake up that I realize what’s happening.

Like I said, this has happened three times.  The first two times, I came downstairs and told her that I was sleeping…in my room…in my bed.  So why on these random days does she not look for me there?

I’m very confused.

I think everyone loves a comfy, cozy pair of sweatpants.  I certainly do.  If anyone, fashion blogger or editor, says they don’t wear sweatpants, know that they’re a bald faced liar.  Everyone, I mean everyone, owns a pair of sweatpants, or sweatpant-like lounge pants.  It’s a universal truth – like gravity.

I find great comfort in that too.  It kind of brings everyone down to earth a bit.  You go into a scary interview, just imagine them in sweatpants.  About to meet the President, Prime Minister, or Queen and a nervous wreck?  Imagine him/her in sweatpants.  Seriously.  All of a sudden, that person becomes less of an intimidating abstraction, and a relatable peer.

So for all of you today, here’s me relating to you.
That, and it’s a lazy day.

Usually I start to seriously think about my garden around this time of year, but with temperatures hanging just barely above the freezing mark it’s the furthest thing from my mind.  I have my seeds ready and my girl and I stand with baited breath for those warmer days to start so we can grow our own delicious food.

In the mean time, we’ve signed up for a delivery service offered here.  It’s a service that delivers a huge box of fresh organic produce to our doorstep.  Not only is it super convenient to have it all just appear, but it challenges us by giving us things we wouldn’t always buy. It’s just freed us up quite a bit and I love it.  Plus, since it’s all organic we end up getting more creative so that we can use up every single last little bit.

I know.  I’m geeking about organic produce and home gardens.
