The Dalai Lama says the secret to true happiness is this: have a purpose, and serve others.  There really is no other form of contentment. The pursuit of happiness is fruitless as it’s a momentary feeling that naturally fades after a period of time. Our brains are designed to adapt tot he level of happiness, or luxury, we have and then to see that as the new standard. So you’re always searching for that excitement, that momentary fleeting feeling of happiness. Whereas a true form of satisfaction and contentment is found in the two precepts provided above.

So I guess the questions for everyone are: What kind of happiness are you hoping for? And how do you find your purpose in the service of others?

No seriously, I’m actually asking.
